Ponderment on human minds

A little something that I pondered whilst roaming through the woods this evening. Not that the woods have anything to do with this, I just think better down there. There was a television show presented by Lord Robert Winston a few years ago, in which he talked about why we are attracted to people that we are attracted to, and he said (though I don't remember his reasoning or proof) that we choose mates based on what we want our children to look like. Subconsciously, of course.

So, I got to thinking today about the reasons that a person would choose a mate if they were of the same sex as themselves. For me, if I am looking at the same sex then I like women who have the same attributes as me, except that I look for them to be slighter slimmer than me. I don't know what that means for me (I fancy myself?!) but I do wonder what Professor Winston would say about it, and I am going to head over to google now and see if he has said anything about it.
